Barangay San Pedro

Barangay San Pedro is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Alegria, located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay San Pedro had a population of 2,435. This made it the 1st largest of 12 barangays in Alegria by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Pedro accounted for approximately 15.05% of the total population of Alegria, which stood at 16,184 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 2,220 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 2,435 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +9.7%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay San Pedro is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Alegria is a municipality comprising 12 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Pedro, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Pedro ranks 46th by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay San Pedro is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
