Barangay Kawayan

Barangay Kawayan is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Alicia, located in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, in the Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Kawayan had a population of 2,084. This made it the 3rd largest of 27 barangays in Alicia by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Kawayan accounted for approximately 5.28% of the total population of Alicia, which stood at 39,456 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Kawayan moving from 2,062 residents to 2,084 residents, an intercensal change of +1.1%. The trajectory indicates a slowly expanding community. Barangay Kawayan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Alicia is a municipality comprising 27 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Kawayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
