Barangay Cabalayongan

Barangay Cabalayongan forms part of Basay, a municipality in Negros Oriental, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Cabalayongan had a population of 878. This made it the 9th largest of 10 barangays in Basay by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cabalayongan accounted for approximately 3.08% of the total population of Basay, which stood at 28,531 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,190 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 878 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -26.2%, consistent with a contracting settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Cabalayongan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Basay is a municipality comprising 10 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Cabalayongan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
