Situated in Burauen, Leyte, Barangay Dina-ayan is one of 77 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

This made it the 42nd largest of 77 barangays in Burauen by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Dina-ayan accounted for approximately 0.95% of the total population of Burauen, which stood at 52,511 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Dina-ayan changed from 456 to 498, a shift of +9.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Burauen. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Dina-ayan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Burauen is a municipality comprising 77 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Dina-ayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
