Barangay San Jose East

Barangay San Jose East is a small barangay in the municipality of Burauen, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay San Jose East had a population of 786. This made it the 21st largest of 77 barangays in Burauen by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose East accounted for approximately 1.50% of the total population of Burauen, which stood at 52,511 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 837 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 786 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -6.1%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay San Jose East is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Burauen is a municipality comprising 77 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Jose East, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Leyte, which contains 1,641 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Jose East ranks 820th by 2020 population.
