Barangay Palengke (Pob.)

Situated in Caibiran, Biliran, Barangay Palengke (Pob.) is one of 17 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Palengke (Pob.) had a population of 1,125. This made it the 8th largest of 17 barangays in Caibiran by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Palengke (Pob.) accounted for approximately 4.66% of the total population of Caibiran, which stood at 24,167 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Palengke (Pob.) changed from 1,357 to 1,125, a shift of -17.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Caibiran. Barangay Palengke (Pob.) is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Caibiran is a municipality comprising 17 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Palengke (Pob.), including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Biliran, which contains 132 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Palengke (Pob.) ranks 59th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
