Situated in City of Baybay, Leyte, Barangay Monterico is one of 92 barangays that make up the city within Eastern Visayas.

This made it the 75th largest of 92 barangays in City of Baybay by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Monterico accounted for approximately 0.41% of the total population of City of Baybay, which stood at 111,848 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 425 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 464 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +9.2%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Monterico as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Baybay is a city comprising 92 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Monterico, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Leyte, which contains 1,641 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Monterico ranks 1199th by 2020 population.
