Barangay Luna

Barangay Luna is a large barangay in the city of City of Surigao, located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Luna had a population of 13,233. This made it the 4th largest of 54 barangays in City of Surigao by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Luna accounted for approximately 7.73% of the total population of City of Surigao, which stood at 171,107 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Luna changed from 10,425 to 13,233, a shift of +26.9% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in City of Surigao. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Luna as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Surigao is a city comprising 54 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Luna, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Luna ranks 4th by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Luna is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
