Barangay Rizal

Barangay Rizal is a large barangay in the City of Surigao, located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Rizal had a population of 7,492. This made it the 6th largest of 54 barangays in City of Surigao by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Rizal accounted for approximately 4.38% of the total population of City of Surigao, which stood at 171,107 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 6,659 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 7,492 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +12.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Rizal is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Surigao is a city comprising 54 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Rizal, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Rizal ranks 6th by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Rizal is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
