Barangay Sabang

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Sabang is one of the administrative divisions of City of Surigao in Surigao Del Norte, Caraga, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Sabang had a population of 6,114. This made it the 9th largest of 54 barangays in City of Surigao by population, placing it in the upper half of the city. Residents of Barangay Sabang accounted for approximately 3.57% of the total population of City of Surigao, which stood at 171,107 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,705 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 6,114 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +29.9%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Sabang as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Surigao is a city comprising 54 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Sabang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Sabang ranks 9th by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Sabang is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
