Situated in Donsol, Sorsogon, Barangay Banban is one of 51 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Banban had a population of 815. This made it the 22nd largest of 51 barangays in Donsol by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Banban accounted for approximately 1.62% of the total population of Donsol, which stood at 50,281 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Banban changed from 918 to 815, a shift of -11.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Donsol. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Banban as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Donsol is a municipality comprising 51 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Banban, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
