Barangay Upi

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Upi is one of the administrative divisions of Gamu in Isabela, Cagayan Valley, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Upi had a population of 5,161. This made it the 1st largest of 16 barangays in Gamu by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Upi accounted for approximately 16.84% of the total population of Gamu, which stood at 30,655 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Upi moving from 5,096 residents to 5,161 residents, an intercensal change of +1.3%. The trajectory indicates a slowly expanding community. Barangay Upi is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Gamu is a municipality comprising 16 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Upi, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Barangay Upi is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
