Barangay Calapi

Barangay Calapi forms part of Hinigaran, a municipality in Negros Occidental, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Calapi had a population of 3,715. This made it the 9th largest of 24 barangays in Hinigaran by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Calapi accounted for approximately 4.18% of the total population of Hinigaran, which stood at 88,909 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Calapi moving from 3,387 residents to 3,715 residents, an intercensal change of +9.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Calapi is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Hinigaran is a municipality comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Calapi, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
