Barangay Kalinawan

Barangay Kalinawan is a small barangay in the municipality of Jaro, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Kalinawan had a population of 1,600. This made it the 8th largest of 46 barangays in Jaro by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Kalinawan accounted for approximately 3.66% of the total population of Jaro, which stood at 43,758 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Kalinawan moving from 1,062 residents to 1,600 residents, an intercensal change of +50.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Kalinawan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Jaro is a municipality comprising 46 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Kalinawan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Leyte, which contains 1,641 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Kalinawan ranks 313th by 2020 population.
