Situated in Lidlidda, Ilocos Sur, Barangay Banucal is one of 11 barangays that make up the municipality within Ilocos Region.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Banucal had a population of 676. This made it the 2nd largest of 11 barangays in Lidlidda by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Banucal accounted for approximately 14.37% of the total population of Lidlidda, which stood at 4,705 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 705 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 676 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -4.1%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Banucal is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
