Barangay New Opon

Situated in Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur, Barangay New Opon is one of 22 barangays that make up the municipality within Davao Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay New Opon had a population of 1,693. This made it the 15th largest of 22 barangays in Magsaysay by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay New Opon accounted for approximately 3.01% of the total population of Magsaysay, which stood at 56,263 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay New Opon changed from 1,639 to 1,693, a shift of +3.3% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Magsaysay. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay New Opon as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Magsaysay is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay New Opon, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
