Barangay Kaumbakan

Classified as a very small barangay, Barangay Kaumbakan is one of the administrative divisions of Mahatao in Batanes, Cagayan Valley, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Kaumbakan had a population of 446. This made it the 2nd largest of 4 barangays in Mahatao by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Kaumbakan accounted for approximately 26.19% of the total population of Mahatao, which stood at 1,703 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 425 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 446 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +4.9%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Kaumbakan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Mahatao is a municipality comprising 4 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Kaumbakan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
