Situated in Majayjay, Laguna, Barangay Balayong is one of 40 barangays that make up the municipality within CALABARZON.

This made it the 37th largest of 40 barangays in Majayjay by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Balayong accounted for approximately 0.26% of the total population of Majayjay, which stood at 27,893 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Balayong moving from 208 residents to 73 residents, an intercensal change of -64.9%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Balayong as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Majayjay is a municipality comprising 40 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Balayong, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
