Barangay Macario

Barangay Macario is a small barangay in the municipality of Merida, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Macario had a population of 1,218. This made it the 10th largest of 22 barangays in Merida by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Macario accounted for approximately 3.86% of the total population of Merida, which stood at 31,574 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Macario moving from 1,071 residents to 1,218 residents, an intercensal change of +13.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Macario is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
