Barangay San Jose

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay San Jose is one of the administrative divisions of Merida in Leyte, Eastern Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay San Jose had a population of 616. This made it the 20th largest of 22 barangays in Merida by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose accounted for approximately 1.95% of the total population of Merida, which stood at 31,574 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay San Jose changed from 493 to 616, a shift of +24.9% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Merida. Barangay San Jose is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Merida is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Jose, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
