Barangay Maporong

Barangay Maporong is a small barangay in the municipality of Oas, located in the province of Albay, in the Bicol Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Maporong had a population of 1,223. This made it the 24th largest of 53 barangays in Oas by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Maporong accounted for approximately 1.85% of the total population of Oas, which stood at 66,084 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Maporong moving from 1,184 residents to 1,223 residents, an intercensal change of +3.3%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Maporong is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Oas is a municipality comprising 53 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Maporong, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Albay, which contains 720 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Maporong ranks 433rd by 2020 population.
