Barangay Tapel

Situated in Oas, Albay, Barangay Tapel is one of 53 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Tapel had a population of 1,694. This made it the 11th largest of 53 barangays in Oas by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tapel accounted for approximately 2.56% of the total population of Oas, which stood at 66,084 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,813 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,694 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -6.6%, consistent with a contracting settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Tapel as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Oas is a municipality comprising 53 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Tapel, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Albay, which contains 720 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Tapel ranks 295th by 2020 population.
