Situated in Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur, Barangay San Jose is one of 32 barangays that make up the municipality within Caraga.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay San Jose had a population of 2,870. This made it the 8th largest of 32 barangays in Prosperidad by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose accounted for approximately 3.25% of the total population of Prosperidad, which stood at 88,321 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay San Jose moving from 2,579 residents to 2,870 residents, an intercensal change of +11.3%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay San Jose as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
