Situated in San Andres, Catanduanes, Barangay Palawig is one of 38 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Palawig had a population of 1,298. This made it the 11th largest of 38 barangays in San Andres by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Palawig accounted for approximately 3.37% of the total population of San Andres, which stood at 38,480 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Palawig moving from 1,303 residents to 1,298 residents, an intercensal change of -0.4%. The trajectory indicates a broadly stable community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Palawig as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Andres is a municipality comprising 38 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Palawig, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Catanduanes, which contains 315 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Palawig ranks 51st by 2020 population.
