Barangay Gengarog

Barangay Gengarog is a small barangay in the municipality of San Jose, located in the province of Northern Samar, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Gengarog had a population of 940. This made it the 8th largest of 16 barangays in San Jose by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Gengarog accounted for approximately 5.33% of the total population of San Jose, which stood at 17,641 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Gengarog moving from 925 residents to 940 residents, an intercensal change of +1.6%. The trajectory indicates a slowly expanding community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Gengarog as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Jose is a municipality comprising 16 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Gengarog, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
