Barangay Consolacion forms part of San Miguel, a municipality in Iloilo, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

This made it the 4th largest of 24 barangays in San Miguel by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. The barangay recorded 2,197 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 2,339 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +6.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Consolacion as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Miguel is a municipality comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Consolacion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
