Situated in Santiago, Ilocos Sur, Barangay Poblacion Sur is one of 24 barangays that make up the municipality within Ilocos Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Poblacion Sur had a population of 495. This made it the 18th largest of 24 barangays in Santiago by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Poblacion Sur accounted for approximately 2.54% of the total population of Santiago, which stood at 19,471 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Poblacion Sur changed from 496 to 495, a shift of -0.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with broadly stable populations in Santiago.
