Barangay Poblacion

Barangay Poblacion forms part of Torrijos, a municipality in Marinduque, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Poblacion had a population of 3,016. This made it the 2nd largest of 25 barangays in Torrijos by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Poblacion accounted for approximately 9.90% of the total population of Torrijos, which stood at 30,476 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 3,389 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 3,016 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -11.0%, consistent with a contracting settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Poblacion as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Torrijos is a municipality comprising 25 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Poblacion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Marinduque, which contains 218 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Poblacion ranks 7th by 2020 population. Marinduque is classified as a 4th by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Poblacion is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
