Barangay Luy-a

Situated in Tukuran, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Luy-a is one of 25 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Luy-a had a population of 745. This made it the 20th largest of 25 barangays in Tukuran by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Luy-a accounted for approximately 1.76% of the total population of Tukuran, which stood at 42,429 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 731 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 745 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +1.9%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Luy-a as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Tukuran is a municipality comprising 25 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Luy-a, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
