Barangay Simamla

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Simamla is one of the administrative divisions of Virac in Catanduanes, Bicol Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Simamla had a population of 922. This made it the 32nd largest of 63 barangays in Virac by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Simamla accounted for approximately 1.20% of the total population of Virac, which stood at 76,520 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Simamla changed from 848 to 922, a shift of +8.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Virac. Barangay Simamla is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Virac is a municipality comprising 63 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Simamla, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Catanduanes, which contains 315 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Simamla ranks 100th by 2020 population.
