Situated in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, Barangay Talaptap is one of 27 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Talaptap had a population of 1,298. This made it the 14th largest of 27 barangays in Alicia by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Talaptap accounted for approximately 3.29% of the total population of Alicia, which stood at 39,456 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Talaptap changed from 1,450 to 1,298, a shift of -10.5% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Alicia. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Talaptap as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
