Barangay Lunang I

Situated in Almagro, Samar, Barangay Lunang I is one of 23 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Lunang I had a population of 575. This made it the 4th largest of 23 barangays in Almagro by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Lunang I accounted for approximately 6.20% of the total population of Almagro, which stood at 9,273 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 489 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 575 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +17.6%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Lunang I as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Almagro is a municipality comprising 23 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Lunang I, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Samar, which contains 951 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Lunang I ranks 468th by 2020 population.
