Barangay Sampao

Situated in Almeria, Biliran, Barangay Sampao is one of 13 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Sampao had a population of 778. This made it the 13th largest of 13 barangays in Almeria by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Sampao accounted for approximately 4.33% of the total population of Almeria, which stood at 17,954 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Sampao changed from 735 to 778, a shift of +5.9% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Almeria. Barangay Sampao is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Almeria is a municipality comprising 13 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Sampao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Biliran, which contains 132 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Sampao ranks 94th by 2020 population. Biliran is classified as a 4th by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
