Barangay Bungol

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Bungol is one of the administrative divisions of Balaoan in La Union, Ilocos Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bungol had a population of 1,417. This made it the 10th largest of 36 barangays in Balaoan by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bungol accounted for approximately 3.51% of the total population of Balaoan, which stood at 40,339 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bungol changed from 1,457 to 1,417, a shift of -2.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Balaoan. Barangay Bungol is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Balaoan is a municipality comprising 36 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bungol, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of La Union, which contains 576 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bungol ranks 216th by 2020 population.
