Barangay Maria Cristina East

Barangay Maria Cristina East is a small barangay in the municipality of Bangar, located in the province of La Union, in the Ilocos Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Maria Cristina East had a population of 945. This made it the 25th largest of 33 barangays in Bangar by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Maria Cristina East accounted for approximately 2.48% of the total population of Bangar, which stood at 38,041 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 896 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 945 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +5.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Maria Cristina East is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Bangar is a municipality comprising 33 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Maria Cristina East, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
