Barangay Tag-abaca

Barangay Tag-abaca is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Basilisa, located in the province of Dinagat Islands, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tag-abaca had a population of 3,324. This made it the 1st largest of 27 barangays in Basilisa by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tag-abaca accounted for approximately 9.01% of the total population of Basilisa, which stood at 36,911 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Tag-abaca changed from 3,148 to 3,324, a shift of +5.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Basilisa. Barangay Tag-abaca is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Basilisa is a municipality comprising 27 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Tag-abaca, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Dinagat Islands, which contains 100 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Tag-abaca ranks 4th by 2020 population. Dinagat Islands is classified as a 4th by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Tag-abaca is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
