Barangay Cawayan

Barangay Cawayan is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Bongabong, located in the province of Oriental Mindoro, in the MIMAROPA Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Cawayan had a population of 3,273. This made it the 4th largest of 36 barangays in Bongabong by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cawayan accounted for approximately 4.25% of the total population of Bongabong, which stood at 76,973 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Cawayan moving from 2,957 residents to 3,273 residents, an intercensal change of +10.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Cawayan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Bongabong is a municipality comprising 36 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Cawayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
