Situated in Botolan, Zambales, Barangay Parel is one of 31 barangays that make up the municipality within Central Luzon.

This made it the 17th largest of 31 barangays in Botolan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Parel accounted for approximately 1.88% of the total population of Botolan, which stood at 66,739 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Parel changed from 1,091 to 1,257, a shift of +15.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Botolan. Barangay Parel is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Botolan is a municipality comprising 31 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Parel, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
