Barangay Alejal

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Alejal is one of the administrative divisions of Carmen in Davao Del Norte, Davao Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Alejal had a population of 8,174. This made it the 3rd largest of 20 barangays in Carmen by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Alejal accounted for approximately 9.97% of the total population of Carmen, which stood at 82,018 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Alejal changed from 8,148 to 8,174, a shift of +0.3% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with slowly expanding populations in Carmen. Barangay Alejal is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Carmen is a municipality comprising 20 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Alejal, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Del Norte, which contains 223 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Alejal ranks 34th by 2020 population. Barangay Alejal is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
