Barangay Puncan

Barangay Puncan is a large barangay in the municipality of Carranglan, located in the province of Nueva Ecija, in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Puncan had a population of 5,001. This made it the 2nd largest of 17 barangays in Carranglan by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Puncan accounted for approximately 11.79% of the total population of Carranglan, which stood at 42,420 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Puncan moving from 4,766 residents to 5,001 residents, an intercensal change of +4.9%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Puncan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Carranglan is a municipality comprising 17 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Puncan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Nueva Ecija, which contains 849 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Puncan ranks 112th by 2020 population. Nueva Ecija is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Puncan is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
