Barangay Benowangan

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Benowangan is one of the administrative divisions of City of Borongan in Eastern Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Benowangan had a population of 881. This made it the 30th largest of 61 barangays in City of Borongan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Benowangan accounted for approximately 1.22% of the total population of City of Borongan, which stood at 71,961 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 986 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 881 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -10.6%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Benowangan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Borongan is a city comprising 61 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Benowangan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Eastern Samar, which contains 597 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Benowangan ranks 186th by 2020 population. The barangay's legislative and executive affairs are handled by a Punong Barangay and the Sangguniang Barangay, elected nationwide during the Barangay and SK Elections.
