Situated in City of Cauayan, Isabela, Barangay Gagabutan is one of 65 barangays that make up the city within Cagayan Valley.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Gagabutan had a population of 528. This made it the 55th largest of 65 barangays in City of Cauayan by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Gagabutan accounted for approximately 0.37% of the total population of City of Cauayan, which stood at 143,403 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 492 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 528 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +7.3%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Gagabutan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
