Barangay Aplaya

Barangay Aplaya is a very large barangay in the city of City of Digos, located in the province of Davao Del Sur, in the Davao Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Aplaya had a population of 19,234. This made it the 2nd largest of 26 barangays in City of Digos by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Aplaya accounted for approximately 10.21% of the total population of City of Digos, which stood at 188,376 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 18,485 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 19,234 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +4.1%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Aplaya as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Digos is a city comprising 26 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Aplaya, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Del Sur, which contains 414 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Aplaya ranks 2nd by 2020 population. Davao Del Sur is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Aplaya is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
