Barangay Catbangen

Barangay Catbangen is a large barangay in the city of City of San Fernando, located in the province of La Union, in the Ilocos Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Catbangen had a population of 9,638. This made it the 2nd largest of 59 barangays in City of San Fernando by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Catbangen accounted for approximately 7.67% of the total population of City of San Fernando, which stood at 125,640 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Catbangen changed from 9,781 to 9,638, a shift of -1.5% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with broadly stable populations in City of San Fernando. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Catbangen as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of San Fernando is a city comprising 59 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Catbangen, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of La Union, which contains 576 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Catbangen ranks 2nd by 2020 population.
