Barangay Marangan

Situated in Dumingag, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Marangan is one of 44 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Marangan had a population of 1,314. This made it the 12th largest of 44 barangays in Dumingag by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Marangan accounted for approximately 2.69% of the total population of Dumingag, which stood at 48,881 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Marangan changed from 1,190 to 1,314, a shift of +10.4% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Dumingag. Barangay Marangan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Dumingag is a municipality comprising 44 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Marangan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Sur, which contains 779 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Marangan ranks 258th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
