This made it the 27th largest of 64 barangays in Echague by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Buneg accounted for approximately 1.57% of the total population of Echague, which stood at 88,410 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Buneg moving from 1,304 residents to 1,389 residents, an intercensal change of +6.5%. The trajectory indicates a growing community.
