Barangay Matapitap

Barangay Matapitap forms part of Gerona, a municipality in Tarlac, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Matapitap had a population of 1,522. This made it the 32nd largest of 44 barangays in Gerona by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Matapitap changed from 1,327 to 1,522, a shift of +14.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Gerona. Barangay Matapitap is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Gerona is a municipality comprising 44 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Matapitap, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Tarlac, which contains 511 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Matapitap ranks 344th by 2020 population.
