Situated in Gerona, Tarlac, Barangay San Jose is one of 44 barangays that make up the municipality within Central Luzon.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay San Jose had a population of 1,492. This made it the 33rd largest of 44 barangays in Gerona by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose accounted for approximately 1.58% of the total population of Gerona, which stood at 94,485 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,244 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,492 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +19.9%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay San Jose is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Gerona is a municipality comprising 44 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Jose, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Tarlac, which contains 511 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Jose ranks 350th by 2020 population.
