Barangay Palayog

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Palayog is one of the administrative divisions of Hinigaran in Negros Occidental, Western Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Palayog had a population of 1,013. This made it the 24th largest of 24 barangays in Hinigaran by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Palayog accounted for approximately 1.14% of the total population of Hinigaran, which stood at 88,909 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Palayog changed from 1,019 to 1,013, a shift of -0.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with broadly stable populations in Hinigaran. Barangay Palayog is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Hinigaran is a municipality comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Palayog, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Occidental, which contains 662 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Palayog ranks 554th by 2020 population. The barangay's legislative and executive affairs are handled by a Punong Barangay and the Sangguniang Barangay, elected nationwide during the Barangay and SK Elections. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
