Barangay Makilas

Classified as a mid-sized barangay, Barangay Makilas is one of the administrative divisions of Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Makilas had a population of 2,736. This made it the 12th largest of 28 barangays in Ipil by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Makilas accounted for approximately 3.06% of the total population of Ipil, which stood at 89,401 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Makilas moving from 2,270 residents to 2,736 residents, an intercensal change of +20.5%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Makilas is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Ipil is a municipality comprising 28 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Makilas, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
